Planet Dan

Hubble captured this picture of Planet Dan, for realz:

I wonder how many moons it's got?

Actually, it's a high digital photograph of my eyeball taken at the optometrist today. Kinda looks a little bloodshot, but I swear it's a perfectly good eyeball. Or at least that's what the doctor says. And actually I have two of them. Let's hear it for my rods and cones!

As for moons, if you email me a picture of your naked rear end, I will photoshop it into orbit around my eyeball if you wish. As for rods and cones, if you send me a picture of your... oh never mind.

ps. That little bump at the top of the image is not some creepy eye zit or anything, it's just the registration mark for the photo so that you know which end is up.

As hot as you & eyeball are Dan, I'm not sending you a pic of my rod or moon. Not for you to post on PlanetDan anyway... LOL

That's no moon. That's a space station.

Nice retina...This is a fundus photo of your right eye. Just a little tour of your retina in case your doctor didn't 'splain anything. Your optic nerve looks great - that's the bright yellow circular area. FYI, an ophthalmologist can look at the optic nerve head and begin to see signs of glaucoma...and you have nothing to worry about. :) The blood vessels look nice too....in people with high blood pressure, the blood vessels are very wiggly/wavy. The thicker appearing vessels are veins, the thinner ones, arteries.
The darker zone in the middle of the image is the macula - that's the area of central vision, where the lens focuses light. That area looks good too.

I'm a scientist at a major pharmaceutical company working on treatments for a variety of retina diseases - I look at these all the time.

Did you have an angiogram?

No! Should I have?

Dear Dan,
I am happy that your life has been so busy and full lately that you haven't had much time to post, but for some of us, our daily dose of Dan is what gets us through our sometimes not so busy and not so full lives. PLEASE make time for us. I love your blog and when I pop you on from my favorites and see no new postings, I get a little sad. I hope all is well with you,
Love, A faithful reader

how'd you get your eye doc to give you a copy of that picture? is that standard? mine takes the pix, shows me in the office, and explains everything, but I never get to take them home!

He asked me if I wanted them emailed to me. I said Heck Yes! Simple as that.
