Beaver

The name of this crayon really makes me uncomfortable, which obviously says a lot more about my own state of mind than Crayola's. But still, Beaver? No one in the marketing department at Crayola second guessed that idea? Sure, it's the name of a common animal, but so is "cock" and "ass", but you don't see any cock- or ass-colored crayons. Even in the 120 pack.

I snagged it from one of those restaurants with the paper tablecloths. Perhaps it will be a collector's item someday, like the "Flesh" colored ones (renamed "Peach" in 1962).

He snatched that beaver right up.

i checked out the crayola website and 'crayoned' beaver, i'm thoroughly unimpressed with the colour and quality of the mark it creates. is it like a try before you buy kinda thing? by the way, love your blog, stumbled across it one day by accident, it gives me giggles.

A college in Pennsylvania actually changed it's name so as not to be associated with negative "beaver" conotations. Beaver College is now Arcadia University.

In Oregon they are all about the beaver. They even opened Oregon's very first Hooters in Beaverton. I'm thinking the creator of this crayon name has to be from Oregon.

Dan is a beaver monger. I think they should have a crayon called "buttrash" - it would a very exasperated pinkish color.

My favorite is the macaroni & cheese color, because it's the exact shade of that powdered chemical cheese.
I wish they had just stuck with "chemical cheese".

sara, inchworms are a neon green color here so maybe they ground up teeny tiny helpless defensless worms so children all over the world can enjoy quiet happy picture coloring time...anything for the kiddies!

I have actually had a bikini wax at a salon named the Beaver Look in Bemidji, MN.
I figured even if it was named after the BSU mascot, the staff at the Beaver Look should know how to properly skin a beaver...and they did.

At 40, I am to young to recall a certain shade of brown as 'niXXer brown' (I don't even want to type it). However, I just had this conversation with my mother, whom worked in the advertising department of a major department store in the 1960s. She was the only woman graphic designer they had nationally, but she almost got fired for refusing to run the ad copy for a sale of sweaters in that colour. How times have changed.

Anyone else grow up with the colours, puce, maroon, ecru?

oooh how about chartreuse! That's a great color!

ha ha ha Dan said "Beaver"

I think Danny boy here has one-track mind. Beavers? Cooters? Diphalia?
And as for the real Beavers...Oregon is indeed known as the "Beaver State". Nooo...it is because of our favorite little animal, the North American Beaver. OSU's mascot is the Beaver, and Corvallis (home to OSU) boasts many businesses with the name Beaver, including the "Little Beavers" kiddie care. I'd say this crayon is the lovely shade of a Beaver's fuzzy coat, as I'm sure Crayola intended. That is all.

I have a lighter from a liquor store in Beaver Creek, Colorado. It's called "Beaver Liquors." No, I am NOT lying, look it up.

By Blogger tcarole, at 9:22 PM

OMG, I DID just look them up. As a fellow web designer, Dan, I think you really need to check out their website. It might give you "ideas" if you know what I mean.

By Blogger tcarole, at 9:27 PM

Beaver Liquors, yep, been there, got the t-shirt. Get over the Crayon thing girl. Love the Beaver, worship the Beaver, bringer
of life and joy! Busy little guys too. Oregon State Universiity refers to itself as the Beavers, and Oregon's state flag has a beaver on it.Not kidding , show the beaver some love, dude...
