Avast Ye

My roommate K-Mack likes pirates. I've never understood the fascination. She watches Pirates of the Caribbean way too often, and don't tell me it's all for the sake of Johnny Depp because she is equally enthralled by any scene involving Geoffrey Rush. What's the allure? Is it the unshaven, unbathed, swarthy manliness of it all? Perhaps she's just drawn to the art of the swashbuckle.

She also likes pirate jokes. I vaguely recall a punchline about a pirate movie being "rated rrrrrrrrrrr," and another one about a pirate's favorite fruit being "Rrrrrrnges". I think her obsession is borderline fetish, but that's none of my nevermind. Plus, I like to encourage abnormal behavior in others, so this pirate-related picture is lovingly dedicated to K-Mack:

Buahahaha! That's so funny. I too have a place in my heart for pirate humor. And keyboard humor. Here's some graphic designer keyboard humor for you: At my old job my friend took a keyboard and popped out all the keys except ctrl, v, c, and x, spraypainted the whole thing gold and gave it to one of the graphic designers as a going away gift...he said those were the only keys he needed. Okay - that's funny to like 3 people.

Good thing they left in the spacebar. Wouldn't want any run-on pirate sentences like RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAvast!

Well, that explains the pirate reference made the other night. With her affinity for pirates, I'm surprised she doesn't wear more PC clothing since our mascot was, afterall, the PC Pirates.

Tell K-Mack to mark her calendar now:

A pirate walks into a bar. He has a ship's wheel poking up out of the top of his pants. The bartender notices this and says to the pirate, "Why do you have a ship's wheel in your pants? It looks mighty uncomfortable." The pirate responds, "Rrrrrr, it's drivin' me nuts."

Love your blog.

OK, Anonymous. Are you Dan's best friend that he & you each have a picture on your fridge to prove? I've heard that joke at every party thrown by Coach & Mrs. Coach. I think you gave yourself away.

Nautical movies and maritime disasters are my favorite! I love Hunt for Red October and I’ve seen the A&E special about the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm one too many times, viva Ile de France. I also enjoy listening to “Brandy” by Looking Glass and “Calypso” by John Denver. I don’t know why.
