Creationists be Damned

My friend Stacy was complaining about her ailing tail bone the other day. She believes it is bumpier than the average tail bone and therefore causes her discomfort when she sits. I joked that perhaps it was the start of a vestigial tail, just because I knew it would make her uneasy. Then the very next day I came across this picture:

[You can read about this baby if you want, he's supposedly reincarnated from a Hindu god]

This piqued my curiosity, so then of course I unfortunately googled "vestigial tail" and saw many things that I didn't want to see. [Both of those links could probably be considered NSFW, especially that last one, ugh.]

Then I got to thinking about how Creationists must hate vestigial tails, because they seem to be pretty clear indicators of human evolution. But those sly creationists are quite capable of reinforcing their own delusions, and it turns out they've already tried to debunk that theory of mine, however unconvincingly.

But then I came across this collection of Things Creationists Hate, which I found very informative and illuminating.

Anyway, all of this reminds me of why I love The Family Guy:

Um, no offense to any creationist planetdan readers. Ahem.

I heart The Family Guy too. OH YEAAAAH!!

(from my favorite part of the show when the Kool-aid man randomly tears through a wall.) Who comes up with that stuff? If Jesus were that funny, ironic and sarcastic maybe I'd go to church. Stupid Jesus.

And ew. That "tail" looks suspiciously like a finger. It has a nailbed and everything. Gross.

Okay - I'm usually not this gross but... suppose it were a nail bed. Might be useful for some discreet scratching now and then. (I couldn't help it - but even I admit that is just sick)

We used to tease Aron when he was little and tell him he was our monkey boy and had been born with a tail. That is until he google image searched it one day and started crying. It was then I realized I had tramatized the poor kid. Who knew.

That second pic of a tail actually looks like a shaved monkey butt.

Awwwww come on, it's almost Christmas, whoops, scratch that, I mean it's almost Holiday! No more of that freaky extra appendage/toddler/religious stuff Dan, puh-leeze!!!

How sweet Dan...
Dawn gets referenced in your blog for Ireland work vacations
Kris is referenced and photographed in party pic's
and the only time you mention me is when you are referencing vestigial tails...
thanks for that
I don't have anything resembling that thing by the way.
I shpuld let you feel it next time you see me though.I don't think it is normal...

The Decemberists were just signed to Capitol Records.

It's no tail on a baby, but it's something.

Double LOL – I love family guy. And it also really made me laugh seeing the Black Friday pics below (November 21) with the French riots and Katrina aftermath mixed in... Btw I discovered Planetdan (awesome site) via a link to "falling Georgie", which is extremely hilarious - I watched that dazed for like at least a half hour (and it’s fun clicking and grabbing various body parts and making him spin around and stuff...). Sorry, Dan, if you don’t like me putting one of your links in my comment, but hey - it’s funny! http://www.planetdan.net/pics/misc/georgie.htm

By Blogger aisy, at 4:08 PM

The thing that i found the weirdest about the little demon pic was the person's foot. It clearly looke like a hand. One of the digits was a couple centimetres shorter than the rest...but maybe my eyes are bad and it was really his hand...help me out here.

By Blogger emalea, at 8:16 PM

yeah, the feet looked like hands and some of the digits looked fused together.

By Blogger aisy, at 9:42 PM

Pic 2 is a shaved monkey butt.

By Blogger Colleen, at 10:48 PM

The little Demon picture is curious.

The foot structure does look like a monkey's foot: fused but flexible digits with a proximal innermost digit.

However, the gluteal development looks human. Other primates don’t have a gluteus developed for upright walking.

The tail also does not look like any monkey tail I’ve ever seen, but appears consistent with a human vestigial tail.

The hair over the tailbone is consistent with spina bifida, which seems reasonable in a person with so many obvious birth defects.

All that said, I’m not a monkey anatomist and this could just be a good photoshop.

I wonder where they get all this stuff from.. o yea, from places like this.. http://www.compfused.com/directlink/968/

There's gotta be money in creating ergonomic products for workers with vestigal tails.

Anyone in?

Thanks for telling me to be damned, and then saying "no offense." That sure made me feel better. Creationists have feelings too.

(backing into a corner and sobbing)

That monkey looking ass pic is actually a peice of "Art" at an intereactive art gallery...

Looking up tails 'cause i just watched "Shallow Hal"...

Found this other site 1st about "little demon". People going back n forth w/professional opinions on the subject in/& the image (ex: http://www.surfingtheapocalypse.net/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?noframes;read=80590 ).

I guess the geniuses can't see its the same piggy/human/doggy bed she's on!!
(The ugly demon pig art sculpture): http://www.patriciapiccinini.net/wearefamily/index.php?sec=yf&pg=01

By the way, for doubters - don't take lay-persons' words for it if you don't want. There's plenty of medical lit out there you can find. I think they've been found up to 30-some cm long. Just we don't hear about/see them often because people have them removed very young. That's why its easy to find the legit baby shots.

And for you creationists - please tell your Intelligent Design brethren- they ain't fooling anyone.
